Bars around the UK are competing for a chance to travel to Kentucky with Wild Turkey bourbon to learn in depth about how the whiskey is made.
Master distillers Jimmy Russell (pictured) and his son Eddie Russell are offering bartenders from selected bars around the world a chance to be part of their educational Behind the Barrel programme. Only five winning spots are available to UK participants.
To be included in a prize draw, bars have to showcase at least three Wild Turkey products in their venue, clearly display all Wild Turkey products together at the back bar, and list at least one Wild Turkey product on their cocktail list in June, July and August.
Participants must demonstrate that, like Jimmy and Eddie Russell with bourbon-making, they have an uncompromising passion behind the bar and want to tell the Wild Turkey story.
Accounts can be rewarded by using the Wild Turkey points scheme, gaining more points by giving the brand exposure on social media or running branded events, for example.
The participating bars are:
- The Dark Horse, Bath
- Hyde & Co, Bristol
- The Dead Canary, Cardiff
- Tiger Milk at The Duke, Plymouth
- Last Chance Saloon, Nottingham
- Smokestack, Leeds
- The Domino Club, Leeds
- Mojo, Leeds
- Mojo, Manchester
- Mojo, Liverpool
- Epernay, Manchester
- Sugar Ray’s, Manchester
- Porter & Rye, Glasgow
- Chop House Market Street, Edinburgh
- Disrepute, London
- High Water, London
- Off Broadway, London
- Kilburn Ironworks, London
The bartenders selected for the trip will take part in an immersive five-day programme in Kentucky, aimed at educating members of the bartending trade in the “secret craft” of bourbon-making legendary distillers Jimmy Russell and Eddie Russell.
From October 11 to 15, winners will divide their time between learning more about bourbon-making at Wild Turkey at the Lawrenceburg distillery and enjoying the best food and drink Louisville has to offer, including a VIP tour and tastings straight from the barrel, Louisville bourbon bar tour, the Rare Breed blending challenge, skeet shooting, campfire stories with Jimmy Russell, camping under the stars in the distillery grounds, and Louisville sightseeing.
The winners will be announced on August 21.
