Bimber Distillery is challenging bartenders to create a Martini-inspired cocktail with a complementary garnish or food pairing for a prize including a trip to Barcelona.
Seeking entries from teams of two, the competition is being run by the London distillery with cocktail bar Dry Martini, which has sites in Barcelona and London.
With submissions due by the deadline of March 9, the finalists will face a panel made up of world-leading industry figures including Javier de las Muelas, founder of Dry Martini bars.
He will be joined by Alessandro Palazzi of Dukes Bar at Dukes Hotel in London, Mike Sweetman of the United Kingdom Bartenders Guild and legendary bartender Peter Dorelli.
The prize for the top team is £200 towards flights to Barcelona to visit the original Dry Martini, plus food and drink vouchers to spend at the bar. Accommodation and other expenses are not included. They will each receive an engraved cocktail shaker.
Along with the second-placed team, each pair will also receive 12 bottles of Bimber’s new London Vodka. Both people in each of the teams in first, second and third place will receive a personalised bottle of Bimber spirit of their choice in an engraved wooden box.
The cocktail must contain at least 40ml of Bimber English Barley Vodka or Bimber Oak Aged Vodka. Bimber London Dry Gin can be used if accompanied by one of the two vodkas.
Entries should be inspired by a classic Martini cocktail and its variations such as a Martinez, Milano Torino, Vesper or Manhattan and be designed to be enjoyed as an aperitivo/entrée with a modern touch.
Up to four ingredients can be used in each drink, not including the garnish or side dish. Homemade bitters, shrubs, syrups and infusions are allowed but the recipe must be easily replicable. Each team will receive 12 minutes to present their drink at the final at Dry Martini in London on March 26.
Six finalists will be selected by Bimber Distillery based on emailed entries. Another two will be picked through social media, using #BIMBERMARTINICHALLENGE2018 and @bimberdistillery on Facebook and Instagram.
All the finalists will receive full brand training at Bimber Distillery on March 19.
