World-leading bar Callooh Callay in London is to relaunch its upstairs space, the JubJub, as a members’ bar.
Tying in with the Shoreditch bar’s 10th anniversary, the area is undergoing a “dramatic transformation” before reopening on May 1. Members will be chosen through application or by invitation from the bar team, and will be given a special JubJub key to give them access (pictured).
Like the main bar downstairs, the JubJub will offer “seriously complex cocktails served in a fun, nonsensical way”. It aims to be “exclusive yet inclusive”, welcoming applications from and extending invitations to anyone who is eager to know about its drinks, whether working in the hospitality industry or simply a lover of great cocktails and spirits.
Each month, a Callooh Callay bartender will take the helm and partner with a spirit brand to showcase the brand’s ethos and story by bringing a fresh and exciting range of events along with a new list of innovative cocktails inspired by the latest goings on in the drinks industry.
Member benefits will include the option to use a secret entrance and exit to avoid queues at Callooh Callay, priority access to weekly events including free tastings and cocktail masterclasses, an exclusive monthly e-newsletter with advanced access to booking for events in the JubJub including New Year’s Eve, a secret direct WhatsApp number to check immediate availability at JubJub, a free punch on arrival, and the option to subscribe to the monthly JubJub “bottled cocktail cabinet of curiosity” – a monthly programme for members to have their own pre-bottled cocktail that can be collected immediately from a specific cabinet within the bar.
Callooh Callay was opened by Richard Wynne in November 2008 and has gone on to feature regularly in the annual list of the World’s 50 Best Bars and win awards at the Tales of the Cocktail Spirited Awards including best international high-volume bar in 2016 and world’s best cocktail menu in 2012.
