Dandelyan wins big in international bar industry awards

Dandelyan at the Mondrian London hotel has won three awards, including world’s best cocktail bar, in the global Spirited Awards at the Tales of the Cocktail festival.

At a ceremony held in New Orleans last night, the bar (pictured above) on London’s South Bank also won the awards for best international bar team and best international hotel bar

Two other UK bars also triumphed, with Trailer Happiness in Notting Hill, London, being named best international high-volume cocktail bar and Swift in Soho, London, as best new international cocktail bar (pictured below).

Other winners in the international categories, which exclude the USA, were Black Pearl in Melbourne for best international cocktail bar, Tippling Club in Singapore for best international restaurant bar and Shingo Gokan, from Speak Low and Sober Company in Shanghai, for international bartender of the year.

The global categories, which include the USA, featured Dandelyan’s win as world’s best cocktail bar alongside Trick Dog in San Francisco for world’s best cocktail menu and Canon Whiskey & Bitters Emporium in Seattle for world’s best spirits selection.

The global award for best new spirit or cocktail ingredient went to Italicus Rosolio di Bergamotto, an Italian spirit in the historic rosolio style that was launched last year by Giuseppe Gallo. It is distributed in the UK by Cellar Trends.

Camille Ralph Vidal was named best international brand ambassador for her work on St-Germain elderflower liqueur. Her drinks will be showcased in London this week at the Maison St-Germain pop-up in Soho Square from July 27 to 29.

Among the US awards, the title of best new American cocktail bar went to BlackTail in New York City which was opened by Sean Muldoon and Jack McGarry from Northern Ireland, co-founders of The Dead Rabbit Grocery & Grog in Manhattan.

Other winners included the previously announced lifetime achievement award that went to legendary German bartender Charles Schumann. See below for the full list of winners.

The 11th annual Spirited Awards ceremony was held last night at the Sheraton Hotel in New Orleans as part of this year’s Tales of the Cocktail, hosted by comedian and actor Michael Ian Black.
