An award-winning former bartender has been confirmed as the new UK brand ambassador for Glenfiddich whisky.
Stephen Rutherford (pictured), who previously worked in bars such as Dusk and Orchid in Aberdeen, has taken over the role at William Grant & Sons UK with immediate effect.
He is taking over from Mark Thomson who, after nearly three years in the job, is moving north to focus on Glenfiddich’s home territory as Glenfiddich’s new Scottish brand ambassador.
Stephen was most recently rum development specialist at William Grant & Sons UK, where he managed OVD and Wood’s Navy Rum. He has history with Glenfiddich: as a bartender, he reached the 2015 UK final of the Glenfiddich Malt Mastermind competition.
In his new role, Stephen will focus on generating brand awareness, building brand advocacy and bridging communication between the brand and consumers, bars, pubs, restaurants, retailers, distributors and press.
He said: “I am extremely proud and honoured to be appointed as UK brand ambassador for Glenfiddich. It is a truly exciting time to be getting involved, with some fantastic projects coming up, and the opportunity to work with the amazingly talented team. I can’t wait to get out and about and start spreading the Glenfiddich love.”
Mark added: “I couldn’t be happier about Stephen taking on the national role as I move north to concentrate on Scotland. His joining of an already strong global team of ambassadors puts us in an enviable position within the industry but also offers a modern point of view for the whisky consumer – plus he has a great sense of humour so I know he’ll fit in just fine.”
