A gin inspired by Nordic woodlands, with botanicals including Danish apples, is being rolled out in the UK.
The premium Kongsgaard Gin has been launched by owners Bettina and Søren Kongsgaard after the success of an exclusive release through the Craft Gin Club subscription service earlier this year.
They are marketing it as a “New World” gin that “speaks to the category’s past as much as its future”, positioned as an alternative to the London dry gin style.
The botanical line-up has a centrepiece layer of Danish apples and organic juniper, taking inspiration from Nordic woods, creating a spirit that is described as “complex and perfectly balanced”. It has ABV of 44%.
The base spirit is made from soft winter wheat and combined with Gensac water from the Grande Champagne region in France. It is distilled in small batches on open-flame copper stills in Cognac.
Søren said: “Our goal was to combine roots, fruits and spices, and ultimately balance the sweetness and fresh acidity we get from our local apples, and let this shine through in the final blend.”
