Malfy Gin extends brand with blood orange expression

The producer of Malfy Gin is following the success of its gin made with Italian lemons with a new release using Sicilian blood oranges.

The orange-coloured Malfy Gin con Arancia is made at Torino Distillati near Turin in Italy with blood orange peel plus juniper, lemon peel, grapefruit peel, angelica root, orris root and coriander.

Now available in the UK, it follows the launch two years ago of the citrus-forward Malfy Gin con Limone which is made with lemons from the Amalfi Coast and Sicily.

At 41% ABV, it comes in a frosted 70cl bottle, with bright branding including five rings that represent the orange peel. It has a recommended price in retail of £28.

Beppe Ronco, who is master distiller for Malfy Gin with Denis Muni, said: “We have created a completely unique taste profile bursting with citrus flavours throughout.

“The experience begins with orange blossom enveloping the nose whilst on the palate crisp, citrus-forward, raspberry-like flavours are nicely balanced by classic herbal notes. To finish, a final burst of sweet orange zest offers a surprisingly smooth, well-rounded mouth-feel.”

Joining the core juniper-forward Malfy Gin Originale, it is distributed in the UK by When We Are Giants.

Suggested serves include Malfy Gin con Arancia with a premium tonic or Fever-Tree Sicilian Lemonade, served in an ice-filled highball glass garnished with a slice of orange.

The Malfy con Arancia Spritz is designed as an alternative to an Aperol Spritz, made by pouring a measure of Malfy Gin into a large wine or copa glass filled with ice, topping it with prosecco and adding the garnish of a blood orange slice.

La Bella Vista is made by pouring two parts Malfy Gin con Arancia over ice in a highball glass and adding three parts fresh grapefruit juice and a splash of premium soda water, stirred and garnished with an orange twist.

The Riviera Fizz is made by shaking two parts Malfy Gin con Arancia with one part peach liqueur and cubed ice and straining it into a martini glass. Add a splash of premium soda water and garnish with an orange twist. Sicilian oranges should ideally be used.
