Czech beer brand Budweiser Budvar has teamed up with several leading UK bartenders to create six original “Hoptails” that tear up the rules.
The recipes have been designed to “celebrate flavour, aroma and the nuances of beer brewing and cocktail design”. Each participating bar features the hoptail on its menu for a month.
Every new Budvar Hoptail is being launched with a film that shows the bartender making it, starting with Nino Lopes from The Maven in Leeds and Stuart Binks at Victory Mansion in London, in a series that is appearing on YouTube and at czechstories.com.
Elevating and celebrating the complex flavours of Budvar, the hoptails are designed to complement or contrast the beer’s hop and malt tones.
Future videos will feature bartenders from bars including The Milk Thistle in Bristol, with more due to be announced later this year.
Nino at The Maven created The Czech Punch which is fresh, bold and fruity but full-bodied too with the hit of the rum, the sweetness of the apricot jam and fresh peach and the zing of the lemon all working perfectly with the Budvar’s hoppy, bitter and sweet notes. Nino describes as “somewhere between a Breakfast Martini, a Passion Fruit Daiquiri and an incredible cold beer”.
Stuart Binks of Victory Mansion in Stoke Newington created the Victory Plum Brew which combines lemon juice, plum sake, ginger syrup, chilli and apple with Budvar to create a hoptail that is sophisticated and delicious with a cheeky warming kick.
