A Summer of Sport causing strain on an industry under pressure

Brigad, the innovative hospitality connection platform, is predicting that three quarters (75 per cent) of pubs and restaurants will struggle with resourcing during the busy summer of sport and will require additional staff to cope with the strain.

Events, such as the Euros and the upcoming Wimbledon matches, are set to bring even more customers into pubs and increase the demand on existing staff. It has been reported that Brits are expecting to spend £2.75 billion on beer during the Euros, while pubs across the UK are set to extend their opening hours if England make it to the semi-finals.

Brigad, on average, sees a 30 per cent increase in work opportunities advertised during the summer months however, the platform’s recent figures have revealed a massive 50 per cent increase since the end of May, with this figure on track to only increase further throughout the summer.

The higher than usual number of work opportunities advertised is a clear indication of the strain current events are already putting on the industry and the need for additional, temporary staff to fulfil customer demand.

Brigad UK Managing Director Nicolas Ferrary says “The industry has been at crisis level for some time and whilst the current increase in demand that we’re seeing is causing a temporary strain on venues, we’re excited for the opportunities events, such as the Euros, bring for hospitality businesses.

Due to a number of different factors on the UK and world stage, many venues are currently operating at below pre-covid levels, however the increased customer demand over the social summer months will see an increase in sales, revenue and repeat customers that will bring a huge boost.

We encourage venues to utilise innovative tech solutions, such as Brigad, to support in this period of increased demand to ensure that temporary and permanent staff can be found, even at very short notice. In fact, shifts posted on Brigad are accepted in under two hours and, due to our strict vetting process, we’re proud that the freelancers who use Brigad’s platform to find work are reliable and of high quality.”

Brigad has already provided valuable support to leading venues across the UK, such as Mosaic Pub and Dining, Urban Pub Group, and more, with these venues crediting the platform for its ability to provide a simple and effective system, whilst also supporting the ongoing issue of staff motivation and worker retention that operators are facing.
