Bacardi-owned single malt scotch whisky Aberfeldy has expanded its range with the launch of a 15-year-old expression finished in Bordeaux wine casks.
Red wine casks from Pomerol, the smallest of all major Bordeaux wine producing appellations, were selected to finish the new limited edition bottling.
It spent 15 years in a combination of bourbon re-fill and re-char casks, followed by a second maturation period of around four to five months.
Wines from Pomerol are said to be “powerful” and “robust”. According to malt master Stephanie Macleod, the use of the casks intensifies Aberfeldy’s signature honeyed fruitiness with “luscious layers of red berries and stone fruits”.
Bottled at 43% ABV, Aberfeldy 15 Years Old is available in Belgium, Germany, France, Luxembourg, Netherlands, Sweden and the UK. It joins the existing portfolio of single malts as a limited edition expression.
