Absolut reveals 10 finalists in search for 13th classic cocktail

Absolut Bloody Mary

Pernod Ricard UK has announced the 10 bartenders whose cocktails have been selected as the best in a competition to find a new classic Absolut Vodka cocktail.

They were challenged to come up with a 13th classic to join the brand’s list of 12 classic vodka cocktails such as a Bloody Mary (pictured), a Cosmopolitan and an Espresso Martini.

After testing all the entries in the #13thClassic competition, Absolut UK brand ambassador and bartender Ricardo Dynan chose 10 that are now up for a public vote. They are:

  • Simon Taylor from Blind Tiger in Liverpool with Absolut Tiki
  • Rhys Wilson from Happiness Forgets in London with Part Time Model
  • Charley Carrington from Rub Smokehouse and Bar in Nottingham with Having an Absolut Bubble
  • Alexander Lyche from The Voodoo Rooms in Edinburgh with Be All End All
  • Ryan Adair from the cocktail bar at the Merchant Hotel in Belfast with Pastiche
  • Tommo Quy from Captain’s Club Hotel in Christchurch, Dorset, with Absolut Revival
  • Robert Drayton from The Billiard Bar at South Lodge Hotel near Horsham, West Sussex, with the Daisy Buchanan
  • Niels Christian Skriver of The Light Lounge in Chinatown, London, with Absolut Pink Thriller in Vanilla
  • Les Fry of Voodoo Café and Cantina in Darlington with The Moustachio
  • Dan Corum Fisher from Loves Company in London with Because I Said So.

The bartender whose drink has the most “likes” on Facebook will win a once-in-a-lifetime trip to Sweden as part of the Absolut Akademi Pro, a bartender-focused education experience.

Adam Boita, head of marketing at Pernod Ricard UK, said: “Classics dominate the top 10 cocktails in the UK and we’re seeing an exciting revivalist trend.

“The UK is the birthplace of some of the most famous classic cocktails and many of today’s best bartenders learned and perfected their trade here.

“That’s why we have turned to bartenders across the nation for inspiration for the #13thClassic, and the entries have surpassed all expectations.

“We can’t wait to see what the public think of their creations in this exciting shortlisting phase of the competition.”
