The five finalists have been revealed in the last stage of a competition run for Absolut vodka to find a new classic cocktail.

The 13th Classic competition was launched as part of a new drinks strategy for the brand that promoted 12 classic vodka cocktails such as a Bloody Mary, a Cosmopolitan and an Espresso Martini.

After revealing the 10 best cocktails from bartenders from around the UK in mid December, the shortlist was put out to a public vote via Facebook. With over 254,000 social interactions, consumers decided the following five favourites for #13thClassic were:

• Simon Taylor from Blind Tiger in Liverpool with Absolut Tiki
• Robert Drayton from The Billiard Bar at South Lodge Hotel near Horsham, West Sussex, with the Daisy Buchanan
• Ryan Adair from the cocktail bar at the Merchant Hotel in Belfast with Pastiche
• Charley Carrington from Rub Smokehouse and Bar in Nottingham with Having an Absolut Bubble
• Tommo Quy from Captain’s Club Hotel in Christchurch, Dorset, with Absolut Revival

The final will take place on Friday (January 29) in London where the winner will be announced. The prize includes a once-in-a-lifetime trip to Sweden as part of the Absolut Akademi Pro, a bartender-focused education experience.

The final will be opened by guest speakers Jared Brown and Anistatia Miller, two of the world’s leading drinks historians, from publisher Mixellany. The #13thClassic cocktails will be scrutinised by a judging panel led by Absolut’s brand ambassador, Ricardo Dynan (pictured), who will interrogate the flavours, presentation, name and story behind the creations.

Ricardo said: “The #13thClassic bartender competition has exceeded our expectations. The calibre and creativity of entries has been sky high and we feel that the five finalists have certainly given the original 12 classics a run for their money.

“We’re seeing a revivalist trend across the UK and by asking bartenders to capture their own retro inspired cocktails, we have seen some inspiring creations that have excited the public too.”
