Alcotraz the immersive cocktail experience opens its fifth site as the business continues to grow into 2024

Inspired by prison-based TV and film productions, Alcotraz, the notorious bar behind bars, will open its fifth site in Brewery Quarter, Cardiff, this November. The new one-of-a-kind, immersive experience, Alcotraz: Cell Block Nine-One, will accommodate 46 inmates for both public experiences and private hires.

Guests – or more appropriately ‘inmates’ – are tasked with smuggling liquor past The Warden and getting it into the hands of some of Alcotraz’s longest-serving inmates, who then transform the contraband liquor into bespoke, delicious cocktails.

Created by experiential cocktail bar specialists, Inventive Productions, Alcotraz brings to life a fictional world with subtle references to cult American shows such as Prison Break and Orange is the New Black. Guests get thrown into the center of a theatrical storyline that unfolds around them they have to play their part as the inmates, navigate and escape.

Sam Shearman, creator of Alcotraz, and founder of Inventive Productions comments, “Since opening Alcotraz in London back in 2017 and seeing how well it was received, we knew we wanted to continue to tell immersive stories that bring to life inventive concepts and challenge traditional environments.

We always aim to bring people together in a unique way – leaving a lasting impression on our guests, and we can’t wait to start seeing the Welsh community behind our bars!”

With four permanent Alcotraz productions already across the UK, Cardiff will mark the fifth location in the UK. Beyond Alcotraz, Inventive Productions also operates the Wild West-inspired Moonshine Saloon and the other-worldly Avora and has a pipeline of innovations that continue their passion for engaged storytelling.

They provide a regular, safe, and supportive workplace for a diverse pool of actors across the country who are integral to bringing to life the creative storylines and Inventive Productions will always continue to be sensitive towards the real-world difficulties that could be associated with their stories.
