ALMR operations managers awards

The finalists have been announced in the ALMR Operations Managers Awards, representing leading companies such as Novus Leisure, Intertain and Stonegate Pub Company.

The finalists of area manager of the year, in the managed pub and bar sector, are Oliver Sweetman and Neil Mckie of Stonegate Pub Company; John Creighton of Walkabout operator Intertain, Jenna Edwards of bar operator Novus Leisure, Gareth Roberts of pub operator and brewer SA Brain & Co, and Shane O’ Gorman of Mitchells & Butlers.

The finalists for business development manager of the year, representing leased or tenanted outlets, are: Alex Smith and Richard Grady of Star Pubs & Bars; Alix Horne, Barrie Aspinall and Richard Eden of Punch Taverns; Brandon Critchell and Helen Davis of Marston’s; Chris Tremain, Isabelle Whitehouse, Jay Weir, Matt Obrey and Shaun Beedles of Enterprise Inns; Nathan Derby of Charles Wells, and Nick Lawson and Paul Wishart of Greene King Pub Partners.

The Association of Licensed Multiple Retailers (ALMR), which organises the highly regarded awards each year, will announce the two winners at a stand-alone event on November 7 at the Hilton Kensington hotel in London.

The finalists will all be closely assessed in the field by a mentor judge before a rigorous three-day master class led by Chris Nichols, a specialist in management in the hospitality sector, and featuring inspiring sessions from leading people in the licensed trade including Stephen Gould, Simon French and Roger Whiteside. It will culminate in a final interview before a mentor judge and eight leading operators.

Nick Bish, founder of the awards, said: “We have always believed that operations managers are the linchpin of modern and thriving licensed hospitality, and the Ops Awards programme recognises, celebrates and develops the best individuals in the sector.

“The fact that the judges have decided on 21 finalists, rather than the usual 20, underscores the very high standard of competition and the exceptional work being carried out in our sector.”
