William Grant & Sons UK has added to its team with the appointment of a leading whisky expert to support its Ancient Reserves portfolio.

Alwynne Gwilt has taken on the role of whisky specialist for The Girvan Patent Still, Kininvie and the new Ailsa Bay and the William Grant & Sons Rare Cask Reserves.

She has been involved in consulting and training in the whisky sector and is the founder and editor of the website, Miss Whisky. She was named international whisky ambassador of the year at the Spirit of Speyside Festival in 2013.

Jonathan Cornthwaite, senior brand manager for the William Grant & Sons UK Esoteric Whisky portfolio, said: “At William Grant & Sons UK, whisky is in our DNA, so it is with great pleasure that we welcome Alwynne, with her wealth of unique experience. Alwynne is a great addition to the team and will help drive forward the William Grant & Sons UK Ancient Reserves portfolio.”

Alwynne added: “I fell in love with whisky during a tasting at Milroy’s whisky shop in Soho back in 2008 and it has been my passion ever since. Fast forward eight years, and I am delighted to be taking on this role within a company that has such a strong portfolio of rare and unique whiskies.

“I am looking forward to working with like-minded people who share the same respect for whisky as I do and my ambition is to encourage more people to gain an appreciation for this fine spirit.”

Launching in February 2016, Ailsa Bay, is a single malt whisky that brings whisky-craft and innovation to a new level, as a singular, precision-distilled spirit, with a unique balance of smoke and sweetness.

The Girvan Patent Still Single Grain scotch whisky is made using the continuous distillation method which takes cereal grains to produce a very pure, fruity and clean-tasting grain spirit, which is lighter in aroma and character than most malt whiskies. It is then matured in first-fill American white oak which adds flavour, character, colour and complexity.

The William Grant & Sons Rare Cask Reserves is an exquisite collection of scotch whisky blends crafted by master blender Brian Kinsman. The collection of elegant blends has been developed using rare and precious whisky, in some cases from Scottish distilleries which no longer exist.

Kininvie Special Release #1 The First Drops was produced at Kininvie in the Scottish highlands, bottled from just three casks that were left to mature for 25 years.
