Amaro Montenegro liqueur joins the Mangrove portfolio

Italian bittersweet liqueur Amaro Montenegro has joined the Mangrove Global portfolio in a push to build the brand in UK bars and retail sectors.

Showcasing its versatility will be a key strategy. With an ABV of 23%, Amaro Montenegro can be served neat as a digestivo, with tonic as an aperitvo and as an ingredient in cocktails, such as a Montenegroni.

Amaro Montenegro was created in 1885 by Bolognese distiller and “rebel genius” Stanislao Cobianch. Described as an iconic Italian amaro, the liqueur is a secret blend of 40 botanicals collected from all over the world and finished with Il Premio.

Nick Gillet, managing director of Mangrove Global, said: “With its heritage, Amaro Montenegro is a welcome addition to the Mangrove portfolio.

“Its versatility and ABV offer the opportunity to take advantage of the low ABV cocktail trend currently seen in the UK and allows us to build on the strong foundations of this iconic Italian liqueur.”

On Monday 24 September, to coincide with the launch of Amaro Montenegro to the Mangrove Global line-up, the UK finals of the Amaro Montenegro Vero Bartender Competition took place.

Aleksandra Jaworska of Bullard & Worth, Edinburgh won with her Aperitivo Francescano cocktail and will go on to represent the UK in the world finals which take place in November in Bologna.

40ml Amaro Montenegro
20ml Montelobos Mezcal infused with smoked figs
5ml Port of Leith oloroso sherry
2 drops Fig solution
Garnish with a side dish of Italian mortadella with a sprinkle of dehydrated figs and salt.
