Arc Inspirations to switch its first-ever bar to Manahatta brand

Leading operator Arc Inspirations is expanding its popular Manahatta bar concept by converting its first-ever bar, The Arc, in Headingley in Leeds.

It is investing £500,000 into transforming the student bar into the New York-style premium bar-restaurant concept that already has sites in Greek Street (pictured) and Merrion Street in Leeds plus another opening in Manchester’s Deansgate in the autumn.

The Arc, which was the company’s first site to open back in 2000, will shut down on July 18 after the World Cup to undergo a three-week renovation.

The new Manahatta will echo the stylish contemporary look of its two sister sites in Leeds. The spacious 8,000 sq ft venue will have a range of seating and eclectic finishes, providing “a cool urban lifestyle embracing the New York vibe”.

As with all Manahatta sites, the bar will feature an all-day brunch menu, lunch and evening dinner menu alongside a premium cocktail offering.

The cocktail selection has been curated by Arc Inspirations’ bar development manager, Mark Austin, and the award-winning team from The American Bar at The Savoy in London, where the bar manager Declan Mcgurk was a previous bar development manager at the group.

Arc Inspirations CEO Martin Wolstencroft said: “The Arc was our first bar when it opened almost 18 years ago so it holds a special place in our hearts. But all good things must come to an end and, after analysing the changing social demographic make-up of the immediate area, and the wants and needs of the community, it was clearly the right time to bring Manahatta to the neighbourhood.

“We’re dedicated to delivering exceptional and unique customer experiences at each of our sites, which involves an intimate understanding of the surrounding area. We know this area inside out and are confident this site will trade well in this format.

“While we’re committed to growing our estate in an organic and sustainable fashion, this move shows that we remain pragmatic to investing in our existing estate when we see fit and are not precious about changing formats when necessary.”

Arc Inspirations is also expanding its Banyan Bar & Kitchen concept, which has grown to seven sites around Leeds and Manchester, with an eighth due to open in Manchester’s Spinningfields in October. Its other bars include The Pit and Kith & Kin in Chapel Allerton, The Box in Headingley and The Pit in Harrogate and Leeds city centre.
