Five-star London hotel the Athenaeum has unveiled a new cocktail which pays tribute to Brazilian music icon Sergio Mendes.
The cocktail is named King of Bossa Nova, referencing the three-time Grammy winning musician’s stellar career. Mendes has recorded more than 35 albums, many of which went gold or platinum, and is well known for hit singles such as Mas Que Nada.
The new serve has been developed by the Athenaeum bar’s head mixologist Alessandro Di Giacomo, who used Bogart rum, Disaronno, coconut syrup, lime juice, Benedictine, passion fruit puree and cherry maraschino as main ingredients for the creation.
Mendes is currently in London performing at the Royal Festival Hall and attended the launch with his wife singer Gracinha Leporace.
