A new limited-edition single malt whisky has been unveiled by Auchentoshan that was designed by 12 bartenders from the UK and other countries around the world.
The Bartender’s Malt was developed by the winning bartenders from its New Malt Order competition including UK champions Jack Wareing from Dandelyan in London and Georgia Billing.
Every single element was developed by the 12 bartenders, from the careful selection of casked liquids to the packaging design and the branding of the expression. It was launched yesterday at the Imbibe Live show in London.
With support from master blender Rachel Barrie, each bartender created their own blend based on their personality and individual tastes. Each was combined into the final product, bottled at 47% ABV.
All 12 of the winners from the UK, Germany, Sweden, Canada and the USA have their signatures on the packaging. The other 10 involved were:

- Jonathan Shock from Gallagher’s Grill in Covington, Louisiana, USA
- Tommy Klus from La Moule in Portland, Oregon, USA
- Linus Morgan from Tap Room Kungsholmen in Stockholm, Sweden
- Charlotte Halzius from Tak in Stockholm, Sweden.
Gold copper in colour with subtle grassy reflections, The Bartender’s Malt offers dried apricots, milk, chocolate, honey and green tobacco leaf on the nose. On the palate, it reveals delicate floral cherry blossom and buttery brioche undercut by zesty notes of ginger, resulting in an edgy and expanding whisky with a long-lasting warmth.
Marco Di Ciacca, senior brand manager for Auchentoshan at distributor Maxxium UK, said: “The New Malt Order bartenders have not only created a new liquid but a new interpretation of Auchentoshan. To enter the competition, bartenders from the five countries were invited to create their own unique bitters using Auchentoshan new-make spirit, adding it to their individual and refreshingly different take on the signature Auchentoshan & Ale mixed serve.
The shortlist was judged by an expert panel in each country to identify 12 impressive individuals who would have the talent and skills to be part of the first international Auchentoshan New Malt Order Collective.
The winners went to Glasgow, the home of Auchentoshan, for a five-day immersion into the city’s creative culture. With Rachel, they enjoyed exclusive technical and laboratory sessions, sense-related experiments and personality pairings with whisky casks plus a long and discursive blending session of maturing Auchentoshan whiskies.

40ml The Bartender’s Malt
20ml Pineapple juice
15ml Lime juice
Shake all ingredients, double-strain into a coupette or Nick & Nora glass.

40ml The Bartender’s Malt
20ml Spiced mead
5ml Cherry Heering
1 dash Chocolate bitters
Stir over ice and serve over an ice block in a rocks glass, garnished with candied almonds.
