A range of single-cask single-malt whiskies, including expressions matured in ex-port and ex-sherry barrels, has been introduced in the UK from Tasmania.
The premium Overeem whiskies are produced at the boutique family-run Old Hobart distillery, using high-quality ingredients sourced within Australia.
The Overeem collection boasts four single-cask, single-malt whiskies: one aged in ex-port casks with ABV of 43%, a cask-strength whisky matured in ex-port barrels at 60% ABV, another matured in ex-sherry casks with 43% ABV, and a cask-strength 60% ABV whisky matured in ex-sherry casks.
They have been introduced to the UK for the first time by Oak Cask Distribution, headed by young entrepreneurs Toby Dudfield and Jonah Costello.
Toby said: “I wanted something different to offer the market, something exclusive and a product that had the potential to change the views of whisky drinkers all over the globe.
“We have a fantastic product that we are doing our best to get into the hands of the consumer. Our goal is to have all whisky lovers share the fantastically unique Overeem experience.”
Jonah added: “When we discovered the Old Hobart Distillery, we realised the high-quality Overeem range was the perfect product to introduce to the ever-growing UK whisky market.”
Awarded a Liquid Gold Award in the Jim Murray Whisky Bible 2013, Overeem was described by Murray as “one of the best wine cask deliveries I have tasted from the southern hemisphere. Absolutely classic. Just get it if you see it – a no-brainer.”
The whisky was created by Casey Overeem who gained a licence for Old Hobart in 2005, inspired by early experiences of distilling in Norway more than 30 years ago and trips to 15 distilleries in Scotland.
