Austrian beer inspired by Columbus launched in UK

Stiegl Columbus

Austrian pale ale Stiegl Columbus 1492, combining European and New World hops, has been launched in the UK by specialist importer Euroboozer.

Created by Stiegl brewery as a homage to Christopher Columbus, the 4.7% ABV top-fermented pale ale has a delicate cloudiness, elegant body, fruit-forward hoppy flavour and crisp, clean finish.

It is available in 25-litre kegs and 330ml bottles, gaining its first listing on draught at Harry Gordon’s Bar at Selfridges in London.

Euroboozer is supporting the launch with brand activation events such as a Stiegl Après Ski party at Strongroom Bar in Shoreditch tying in with last month’s Craft Beer Rising show in London, where any visitor in ski gear on the night received a free stein of Stiegl.

Euroboozer founder Martyn Railton said: “We’re delighted to extend the range of Stiegl beers available in the UK and have big expectations for this incredibly special pale ale. Since the time of Columbus, the Stiegl brewery has been forging a reputation for producing beers of the finest quality so we are excited to be unleashing their latest brew on London and the wider UK.”

The Stiegl brewery in Salzburg was first mentioned in written records on June 16, 1492 – only a few months before Columbus first discovered the Americas. It is best known for its Stiegl Goldbräu beer, which was launched in the UK in 2007.
