As they continue their drive to be the world’s most planet positive spirits brand, Avallen have launched a paper bottle in partnership with FrugalPac

Pioneering spirits company Avallen has launched its climate positive calvados in the revolutionary new FrugalPac paper bottle.

The Frugal Bottle, made from 94% recycled paperboard with a food grade pouch, has less than 1/5 of the CO2 emissions of a standard glass bottle and weighs only 85g, with lower transportation emissions as well. This results in a Carbon footprint of -3.16kg/CO2e per bottle compared to -2.73kg/CO2e for Avallen’s lightweight glass bottle, a significant improvement in performance.

Another advantage of Avallen’s paper bottle is that it is much less fragile and can stand up to the rough and tumble rigours of even the most careless of delivery couriers making it the perfect solution for ecommerce retailers (tho we’re not sure if anything can be 100% Hermes proof).

Commenting on the news, Avallen’s co-founder Tim Etherington-Judge said:

‘Packaging is an area where there is room for improved environmental performance. Spirits have almost always come in single use glass bottles, with large embodied carbon emissions, as well as the raw material extraction of sand. The FrugalPac bottle wins on lower carbon emissions as well as being robust, is great for outdoor events, and is visually stunning with wrap around branding. We are very excited to get our new bottle out into the world’

Nick Gillett, Managing Director of premium drinks distributor, Mangrove Global said:

“The eyes of our industry will be on this latest innovation, Avallen, as always, are at the forefront of the revolution, forging new ways of making the drinks industry more environmentally friendly.  I am really impressed with the robustness and lightweight design of the paper bottle, it’s ideal for retail and home deliveries.   Watch this space, it won’t be long until other brands follow suit.”

Since its launch in 2019, Avallen has embarked on a mission to take action against the climate crisis and catastrophic biodiversity loss and inspire those both inside and out of the drinks industry, by giving back more than they take. Thanks to impact-led production methods, use of three simple ingredients (apples, water and time), B Corp certification and 1% For The Planet membership, plus eco-friendly packaging, Avallen is leading the way for the industry to bee more.
