One of the UK’s leading young bartenders, Tom Walker (pictured) of the American Bar at The Savoy in London, is leaving Britain to work in New York City.

Tom, who last year won the global final of the Bacardi Legacy competition, is joining the team at cocktail bar Attaboy on Manhattan’s Lower East Side later this month.

Attaboy was launched last year by Sam Ross and Michael McIlroy in the Eldridge Street site vacated by iconic bar Milk & Honey when it relocated.

This year, Attaboy shot up from 42nd to fourth place in Drinks International’s list of the World’s 50 Best Bars, which placed The Savoy’s American Bar at number eight.

Tom, aged 28, from Redcar, Teesside, joined the American bar two and a half years ago having previously worked at Bramble in Edinburgh, the Press Club in Brisbane and the former Popolo in Newcastle upon Tyne.

In 2013, he won the Bacardi Legacy global final with his cocktail Maid in Cuba, which combines Bacardi Superior rum, lime juice, simple syrup, mint, cucumber and absinthe, topped with a splash of soda and garnished with a slice of cucumber.
