Awards champion best new products for bars and restaurants

Sirmione Double Rocks Glass by Cosi Tabellini

The 10 best new products set to revolutionise the bar and restaurant trade in 2015 have been revealed in awards run for this month’s Hospitality Show.

They include an improved design for a classic rocks glass, a smartphone-based ordering and payment service, a high-speed juicer and an app for calling waiters and providing customer feedback.

They have won the Star Product Awards, organised for The Hospitality Show at NEC Birmingham from January 19 to 21, across categories of Food & Drink, Catering Equipment, Technology and Design.

They will all be presented at the exhibition where people can vote for a People’s Choice award via Twitter. The winner will be announced on January 19 at 4pm on the Business Briefing Stage.

The winners include The Sirmione Double Rocks Glass (pictured) by Cosi Tabellini UK which is a hand-crafted, high-quality rocks glass that has a wide brim for releasing the flavours of the drink. It is designed to sit perfectly in the palm of your hand.

Another is getWaiter!, an app by Geniusin, which allows customers to call the waiter, request more drinks and ask for the bill using just their phone. It also allows for feedback on food and service while measuring customer wait times. It is available for iOS and Android smartphones, with no other equipment needed.

It is joined in the winners list by Orderella, a mobile phone-based ordering and payment service that was launched at the end of 2013. Providing the consumer with real-time feedback about the status of an order, it is a cloud-based solution that allows operators to cut queues at the bar and reduce the need for card and cash payments.

Another winner is the compact and versatile Zumex Soul by Jestic Foodservice Equipment which is capable of producing a fresh 25cl juice every 15 seconds. It twins high-quality design with a simple push-button operation.

KREBS hotCHOC LM3 by Walsh Direct is a food-safe heated and insulated chocolate spray gun, developed in conjunction with Barry Callebaut. Its material output is adjustable so users can achieve thin applications without losing most of it into the surrounding area.

Vanilla Macaroon Shells by Coup de Pates are semi-prepared thaw-and-serve shells created, ready to fill and decorate, by the master chefs at Coup de Pates, formerly Delice de France

Horse Radish Shoots by Westlands is a creamy white shoot with a subtle horseradish flavour for use in salads, as a garnish or a complement to a main dish.

Venta modular buffet system by Signature FSE offers plenty of functionality as well as saving on space and energy, featuring stylish induction tables.

CultBay by Cultuzz UK & Ireland uses bespoke software that integrates with eBay to allow hotels and travel partners to provide packages and offers via eBay vouchers. Offers can be customised to make them subject to availability and voucher redemption as needed.

Superiorplus 72 by Gram UK is a refrigeration cabinet with a “revolutionary design and ground-breaking technology” that makes for marked reductions in energy consumption.

Products that did not reach the final 10 but were singled out for special recognition included Hobart UK’s “ground-breaking” FTPi flight-type warewasher, Essential Cuisine’s Pork Glace and Studio William’s Texture Spoons.

Toby Wand, managing director of show organiser Fresh Montgomery, said: “Congratulations to our winners and special mentions and thank you to every exhibitor who took the time to enter.

“We now have our final 10 – the hottest new products that will be setting the British hospitality agenda in 2015.

“Myself and the team are greatly looking forward to January and to welcoming visitors from all corners of the UK, so they can taste, touch and try these latest innovations for themselves.”
