Bacardí calls for official Mojitio Emoji

Bacardí Mojito

Bacardí Rum has made a plea to tech giant Apple in the hope of creating an official Mojito Emoji or ‘Emojito’ for National Rum Day on 16 August.

With Apple’s most recent emojis including a mango, lobster, cupcake and kangaroo, Bacardí has appealed for the newly coined ‘Emojito’ to be added to the list of emojis for several important reasons:

• The Mojito is the number one most popular cocktail in the UK
• Not only well-loved in this country, the Mojito is one of the best-sellers across the entire globe
• The Mojito is one of the oldest mixed drinks on the market, with its first traces dating back to the 16th Century, an icon in its own right

The unique taste of Bacardí Rum has inspired cocktail pioneers to invent some of the world’s most famous recipes including the Original Bacardí Mojito. One of the first recorded recipes for the Mojito dates back to the 1930s and contained Bacardí Rum.

Shervene Shahbazkhani, UK head of advocacy at Bacardí, said: “With the Mojito being one of the best-selling and most widely loved cocktails around, it only seems natural to add it to the emoji list. We’re surprised it doesn’t exist already and hope Apple consider it as a new addition after reading our letter!”

Bacardí asks people to voice their support on social media this National Rum Day with the hashtag #MakeMineAnEmojito to help the bid.
