Bacardi hosts trade events to reveal new campaign

Bacardi 150th Anniversary rumBacardi is holding events for bartenders and bar owners around the country to herald the start of a new global campaign.

Held in Glasgow, Manchester and London, the events will provide a chance to preview the brand’s new activities as well as sample the limited-edition 150th Anniversary blend and enjoy live music and cocktails.

The events in Manchester and London will also be a chance to meet Bacardi master blender Jose Sanchez Gavito, who was one of eight “maestros de ron” who created the rare rum for the 150th anniversary of the founding of the company.

The first event is in Glasgow on Monday February 24 at the 19th-century Old Fruitmarket in Candleriggs, while Manchester’s will be at the Albert Hall, a 114-year-old former chapel in Peter Street in Manchester city centre, on Wednesday February 26. (This is a change from the original venue of The Monastery in Gorton.)

London’s event will be at One Mayfair – another grand 19th-century building and a former church – in North Audley Street on Tuesday March 4.

Behind the bars will be some of the UK’s best bartenders including Tom Walker from The American Bar at The Savoy in London who was UK winner of the Bacardi Legacy competition this year.

Other top bartenders serving Bacardi cocktails at the events are set to include Luca Missaglia, Roman Foltán, Liam Cotter, Abdulai Kpekawa and Joe Stokoe.

The event will feature the aged Bacardi Black which, along with Bacardi Gold and Bacardi 8 Year Old, are the focus of March’s Bacardi Tiki Takeover cocktail competition with a prize of a trip to Miami. Click here for details.

Made using a blend of the finest Bacardi rums, the 150th Anniversary release was rested in oak barrels for up to 20 years and finished in 60-year-old cognac barrels. It has resulted in a full-bodied rum with a smooth, oaken character and mellow flavour.

It was specially blended for family members but just a small number of bottles were made available at the start of last year for important accounts such as The Ritz’s Rivoli Bar and The Savoy’s American Bar in London.
