Bar becomes part of ‘open lobby’ in hotel revamp

Holiday Inn Darlington NorthA new bar, restaurant and lobby concept has been unveiled at the Holiday Inn in Darlington North by Dominvs Hospitality, the hospitality arm of the Dominvs Group.

It has created one open, cohesive public area at the refurbished 80-bedroom hotel in Darlington, combining the front desk, restaurant, bar, lounge area and business centre.

It is the fourth hotel in Europe to implement the “open lobby” concept created by InterContinental Hotels Group which owns the Holiday Inn brand.

Preet Ahluwalia, director of Dominvs Hospitality which owns the Darlington property, said: “The notion was conceptualised by understanding how people use space at home in order to give guests the most flexibility, whether they’re looking to eat, relax, work, or have fun in one integrated space.”

The concept also aims to offer a new “dynamic” dining experience for people living in the area to enjoy great food in a relaxed atmosphere. Customers can order from the all-day dining menu or have a drink in the bar.

In addition to the informal meeting space and comfortable seating options, the hotel also serves Starbucks coffee and offers the choice of eating in, eating out or taking food and drink to a guest’s room.

Patricia MacInnes, general manager at Holiday Inn Darlington North, said: “The Holiday Inn open-lobby concept is a fresh offering which combines the various guest experiences in a brand new refreshing way.

“It is a casual, unpretentious space designed to make everyone feel welcome whether travelling alone or with a group, with kids or with colleagues.”
