Bar named best in Chesterfield food and drink awards

Coco Bar Bistro

Coco Bar Bistro won the title of best gastropub in Chesterfield in the Derbyshire town’s annual Food and Drink Awards.

The bar in Corporation Street, operated by SB Leisure, specialises in cocktails and craft beers alongside tapas-style food and steaks.

The award for best pub went, for a second year running, to The Tramway Tavern in Chatsworth Road, which was opened by Everards Brewery in 2010 as “a modern take on a traditional pub”.

Emma Clarke, manager of The Tramway Tavern, said: “We wouldn’t be anywhere without our staff. We’ve worked together for four years and have a really strong bond.”

The award for best customer service went to Calabria Italiana & Caffè Bar. Manager Jess Palmer-Coole said: “The team very much enjoy working together. As a team we’re passionate about providing a great customer experience.”

The title of best restaurant went to The Old Post Restaurant, owned by chef Martin Clayton. “It was a huge surprise to win. It’s a brilliant accolade for the restaurant,” he said.

The awards, organised by Destination Chesterfield in association with Chesterfield College, received more than 1,000 nominations across 11 categories.

They were presented by chef Ainsley Harriott who said: “Chesterfield’s food a drink sector has a wealth of home-grown talent and it is fantastic to see so many of them being recognised at the awards.”

The ceremony was catered by 30 of Chesterfield College’s best students studying NVQ and BTECs in catering and hospitality.
