A bar owner has teamed up with a leading bartender to launch a new school offering specialist training for bar staff.

Dan Conchie, who runs Lockside and Café Chula in Camden in north London, has set up Camden Cocktail Academy, which will run courses in bars and restaurants.

The courses will be designed by bartender Mario Sandgren who has worked at leading London bars and restaurants including Callooh Callay, Hakkasan, The Rum Kitchen, Floridita and Soho House.

Courses ranging from three or five days to four weeks will be available and can be personalised to meet the specific needs of individual businesses and clients.

Dan said: “I know first-hand how hard it is to source top-quality bar staff. I saw this as an opportunity to launch a bar school whose qualification would inspire confidence across the industry.”

They will be offering training with partners such as Matusalum Rum, Arette Tequila, Camden Town Brewery, East St Wine Co. and Generator Hostels. Rather than learning in a classroom, students will learn about gin by visiting a gin distillery or find out about brewing by visiting a brewery.

Once a student signs up for one of the courses, they become a lifetime member of Camden Cocktail Academy, enjoying a host of special offers and discounts from bars, restaurants, venues, markets and breweries.
