Bar staff recognised in TCG awards

David Rimmer, Simon Meighan, Nigel WrightStaff at bars across the UK have been recognised in annual awards organised by leading operator TCG.

Simon Meighan, general manager of student bar Off the Wall in Chester, won the outstanding achievement award after consistently delivering high sales and profit over many years at different sites. Most recently, Off the Wall has outperformed other operators in Chester’s competitive market.

Meighan said: “This business is all about delivering great customer service and the award recognises that my team at Off the Wall is getting it right for our customers day in and day out. TCG has some of the best venues and most dedicated general managers, so to be singled out for this top award is a real honour.”

TCG’s award for general manager of the year at its bars for younger people went to Carl Steane of Norwegian Blue at The Printworks in Manchester city centre.

A new award for use of social media went to Danny Williams of Pit & Pendulum in Nottingham. The bar in Victoria Street also won an award for its deputy manager Dave Parker. Other deputy manager awards went to Jenny Gallagher of Henry’s Café Bar in Leeds, Elena Villar of Tattershall Castle on London’s Embankment, and Ken Parsonage of the Sailors Arms in Newquay.

Recognition to individual team members went to Tomas Gric of Henry’s Café Bar in Cardiff, Hendy Silva of Henry’s Café Bar in Covent Garden, London, Terri Russell of the Newquay Arms in Newquay, and Piotr Cybulak of the St James Tavern in Soho, London.

TCG chief operating officer Nigel Wright said: “All our businesses aim to be the very best of their type in their local market, and our awards winners and nominees are, without doubt, some of the most talented individuals in the pub industry.

“In the year ahead we will be setting the bar even higher. We have significant plans for targeted investment in our estate: across the business we are introducing new food menus and, from coffee to cask beer to cocktails, we are refreshing our drinks range to offer our customers even better value and quality.”
