A bar offering a “new take” on an Irish pub is to open in London this month, run by a team previously with Hawksmoor Spitalfields and Jamie Oliver’s restaurants.
Nuala Bar is due to be launched on Thursday December 7 in City Road in Shoreditch, downstairs from Nuala, the new restaurant from chef Niall Davidson, formerly at London’s Chiltern Firehouse. It has been designed as an Irish boozer with snugs, with a large mahogany bar.
The head bartender is Lauren Taylor, a Dubliner who formerly worked at award-winning London bar Hawksmoor Spitalfields. The bar manager is Spencer Large who was previously group bar manager for Jamie Oliver’s Barbecoa and bar manager at Shoreditch House.
As well as promising to serve “the best Guinness outside Dublin”, it will have an Irish whiskey list curated by Spencer and a cocktail list, including punches, led by Lauren.
Bar food will include potted smokie, scampi-fried quail eggs and coffee ham with Irish condiments.
Open Monday to Saturday from 5pm until late, Nuala Bar promises “strong drinks, atmosphere and revelry paired with a dash of Irish music culture” and “a whirlwind of music, craic and Irish devilment”.
