Bars across UK sign up for Old Fashioned Week

Old Fashioned Week 2016

Bars around the UK are signing up for a week-long celebration of the classic Old Fashioned cocktail in October.

Launched last year by the Maria Loca bar in Paris, Old Fashioned Week has gone beyond France this year to take in the UK as well as Spain, Italy, Belgium, Luxembourg and the Netherlands.

Open to all on-trade establishments serving cocktails, it requires bars to register on a dedicated website. Once approved, they will be able to let their creativity have free rein, and see their drinks promoted as part of Old Fashioned Week from October 14 to 22.

The initiative is also supporting The Isla Foundation based in Nicaragua which fights for better living conditions for the cane-cutters of the sugar industry all over the world. Donations collected by the organisers as part of Old Fashioned Week will be donated to the non-governmental organisation.

Participating bars so far include Milk Bar in Reading, The Treehouse in Beaconsfield in Buckinghamshire, 45 West Bottle Shop & Bar in Leicester, and The Hide Bar, Demon Wise & Partners and Merchant House bars in London.

With drinks specialist Peter Holland as Old Fashioned Week’s ambassador, bars are urged to get involved at or by emailing by October 7.
