Bars celebrate US Thanksgiving with Wild Turkey

Wild Turkey Thanksgiving cocktail

US Thanksgiving is being celebrated by bars in the UK this week with cocktails made with Wild Turkey bourbon.

The brand has come up with its own signature cocktail (pictured) for the November 26 celebration, drawing inspiration from seasonal flavours including cranberry juice and orange bitters.

The Spirit of Diplomacy
50ml Wild Turkey 81
100ml Cranberry juice
2 dashes Orange bitters
Stir the ingredients together, pour over ice in highball glass and top with a slice of orange and wedge of lime.

The First Floor Bar at Cane & Grain in Manchester will be hosting a special Thanksgiving Grain Club on Thursday, with a banquet complemented by the Wild Turkey range of whiskeys, available for £50 a ticket.

Wild Turkey cocktails will be flowing all night as guests enjoy smoked turkey breast, roasted yams, roasted squash mashed potatoes, green bean casserole, honey and maple glazed carrots, stuffing, pigs in blankets, rosemary and thyme mac and cheese, gravy and roast potatoes – followed by desserts including pumpkin and cinnamon pie, chocolate brownie and key lime pie.

Lyndon Higginson, executive director at Cane & Grain, said: “Our First Floor Bar oozes classic Americana and makes the perfect backdrop for a traditional Thanksgiving dinner. Naturally you don’t have to be from the States to join the festivities – we’re excited to open our doors to Manchester’s Americanophiles and play Uncle Sam for the evening.”

Loves Company in Shoreditch in east London will be running a Thanksgiving event called “What is Thanksgiving?”, celebrating with American whiskey as “no-one in the UK knows what Thanksgiving is but we’re gonna celebrate it anyway in the best way we know how – with bourbon.”

On Thursday, Wild Turkey cocktails will be available for £5 along with £6 boilermakers and turkey toasties. They will also be giving away £100 of new bar kit and a bottle of Wild Turkey with a free raffle. It is open from 5pm to late.

The cocktails will include the Turkey and Pie made with Wild Turkey 81 and lemon juice, filled up with the bar’s Sparkling Temptation of honey, ginger, apple and cinnamon soda, over cubed ice with a garnish of an apple fan.

Another will be a Wild Julep, combining Wild Turkey 81, mint and a bourbon shrub made with bourbon, red wine vinegar, balsamico, sugar, cranberries, hibiscus, lemon, lime and orange left to marry for 10 days, and served over crushed ice with a mint sprig and berries.
