A preview of the experiences to be found at Boutique Bar Show in London
Boutique Bar Show is returning to London, bringing together the finest bars, brands and speakers for an interactive day of tastings, talks and experiences. Taking place on Tuesday September 26, it will be back in the urban chic of Basement Block at Victoria House.
Attractions this year will include a look at the history of cognac cocktails with Cognac Frapin and Steve Crozier of Hawksmoor in Spitalfields and a session on scientific distilling techniques with Hepple Gin in collaboration with bar industry legend Nick Strangeway and leading TV chef Valentine Warner. You can have input into the creation of the new bartender-led Electric Bitters, created by Antonio Pescatori from the Nightjar and Marian Beke from The Gibson, with 500 visitors receiving a free bottle in return for feedback on the “beta” bitters available for sampling.
You can pick up your pick and develop your ice-carving skills with Suntory ambassador Zoran Peric and find out how well you really know your spirits by taking the WSET Spirits Challenge. There will also be “secret” bars and guest bars throughout the show, bringing together bartender-selected brands.
Marian Beke will also lead a session on “rethinking ice” on the main stage where, with his new ice cream maker, he will examine how gelatos, sorbets, ice creams and granitas can put the cool into your cocktail. The team from Edinburgh bar The Lucky Liquor Co, which only ever has 13 spirits for a list of 13 drinks, will present on “creativity through constraint” and the secret of their success. The founders of The Cocktail Trading Co will reveal some of their secrets, including how they opened four bars in their first year without a bank.
The show stays true to its ethos of high-quality brands on every stand and equality for all exhibitors, allowing the products to take centre stage. Other highlights will include Navy Island XO Reserve rum, Asterley Bros Dispense Amaro, Greensand Ridge Gin from Kent, Fortaleza Tequila and Holland Gin.
The trade-only show is open from 11am to 5pm. Visit www.boutiquebarshow.com for more information and free registration.
