London Wine Week is back, with more than 125 bars and restaurants due to take part from May 14 to 20.
Alongside a packed programme of events, participating bars will be offering special menus to help people explore the world of wine including bespoke tasting flights with food pairings. These £5 flights will be available to people with digital festival passes which are available for £10.
The programme has been put together by organiser DrinkUp London which is behind other festivals including London Cocktail Week, London Beer Week and London World Gin Day Festival. It will also bring pop-up wine bars, parties, dinners, tastings and other events across the capital, with a central hub at foodie destination Flat Iron Square near London Bridge.
Pop-ups at Flat Iron Square will include wine and spirits merchant Berry Bros & Rudd at the hub’s Tap & Bottle bar on Tuesday May 15 and Wednesday May 16. It will offer wines by the bottle and by the glass from a carefully curated list, including wine flights, starting at £5. The selection available includes wines from Greece, the USA, Germany, Spain, Italy, South Africa, France, England and Greece, with experts on hand to discuss the wines.
From May 15 to 19, Spanish wine producer Freixenet will be showcasing the newest addition to its portfolio, Freixenet Italian Rosé, from its branded van in Flat Iron Square. It will also offer a selection of the brand’s range of rosé cavas from Spain.
Also at the hub, Loire Valley Wines will be serving up one of their region’s leading varieties at the Muscadet Truck while Pol Roger will be serving jeroboams of champagne alongside a vast selection of their still wines from their Land Rover.
The London Wine Week Hub will also be celebrating the royal wedding on the Saturday with a screening of the nuptials and a dedicated menu of sparkling wine and cake.
Participating bars include Social Wine & Tapas which will be offering people using the London Wine Week app the opportunity to enjoy a plate of Pan con Tomate and a glass of Cava Franck Massard, Brut Nature NV, or a Lincolnshire Poacher Hard Cheese and a glass of Rioja white Viura, 4 caminos 2016, for £11 from May 14 to 20.
Percy & Founders will be marking the royal wedding with a flight fit for the occasion featuring wines from Wales, London and the USA. Martello Hall in Hackney and Canova Hall in Brixton will be offering bespoke flights for London Wine Week featuring any three wines from its 12 wines on tap.
