Bars reach finals of Casual Dining Design Awards

hoxley and porterTwo of the new-look Revolution bars, one of Drake & Morgan’s new venues and other stylish bars and restaurants around the UK have been named finalists in the Casual Dining Design Awards.

Interior design projects from 40 finalists will compete to win in three award categories: Best Designed Independent Restaurant, Best Designed Multiple Restaurant, and Best Designed Casual Dining Pub.

The awards are organised as part of trade show Casual Dining which takes place at the Business Design Centre, London on February 26 and 27, where the finalists will be showcased.

The event’s organiser, Diversified Communications UK, created the awards to highlight the creativity of innovative operators and designers and to celebrate the continuing success of the UK’s £6.7billion casual dining market.

The judging panel is headed by leading design commentator David Worthington, chairman of Designersblock and H&M Group. He will be joined by Afroditi Krassa, founder of Afroditi Krassa Design, Theo Williams, creative director of Designed and Sourced, and Simon Kincaid, associate director of Conran and Partners.

The Casual Dining Design Awards 2014 finalists include The Breakfast Club in Battersea, London, designed by Finch Interiors, which also includes bar King of Ladies Man.

Other bars among the finalists include Hoxley & Porter (pictured) in Islington, London, with an interior by Kai Design influenced by colonial rail travel and Egyptian artefacts.

Fusion Design & Architecture has two bars in the finalists’ list: Drake & Morgan’s The Happenstance near St Paul’s and Darwin & Wallace’s first venue, No 11 Pimlico Road in Pimlico, London.

Inventive Leisure is a finalist with two of the Revolution bars that have been refurbished as part of its £10million Evolution programme. The refurbishments in Reading and Parsonage Gardens in Manchester were both devised by Julian Taylor Design Associates.

Winning entries are to be announced during a dedicated design panel session in the Casual Dining Keynote Theatre on Wednesday 26 February at 2.45pm.
