Bartender Fabiano Latham has embarked on a marathon task to collect the finest cachaça recipes from London’s bars for sending to Rio in time for the Olympics.

In a runner’s vest and clutching a specially designed torch made from a cocktail shaker, Fabiano is visiting 26 bars today on behalf of sponsor, Sagatiba cachaça.

Collected in the torch, the recipes will be sent to Astor on Leblon beach in Rio for a special drinks menu on offer throughout August – coinciding with the city hosting the Olympics.

Fabiano (pictured), who is half Brazilian and half English, is bar manager of Chotto Matte restaurant in Soho. He said: “Four years ago there was a great buzz around London’s bars when the games were here. While it is more of a marathon than a hop, skip and a jump, collecting these recipes in my Sagatiba torch is going to be a lot of fun, but no doubt exhausting.

“I hope to pass on some of the energy we all felt in 2012 to our friends in Rio through these fantastic cachaça recipes.”

His visits include Floripa, Flight Club and Cottons Rhum Shack in Shoreditch, Paesan in Exmouth Market, Made in Brasil, Made in Brasil Boteco and Caipirinha Spiritual Bar in Camden, Del Mercato, Ev and The Globe in Southwark, the Churchill Bar, Sanderson, Barrio Soho, Hakkasan, Ronnie Scott’s and Cabana in the West End, Trailer Happiness in Notting Hill, Barraco in Kilburn, Cabana, Lounge and Courtesan in Brixton, Cocobananas in Battersea, and Hemingways in Wimbledon.
