Aberdeen bartender Aiste Valiukaite was the winner of this year’s Pink Your Drink, the global all-female cocktail competition run by Rhuby Liqueur.
She created a cocktail called Pink Courage, mixing the premium Swedish rhubarb liqueur with coconut-washed rosé wine, ginger and black pepper syrup and lemon juice.
She was representing Scotland at the global final alongside bartenders from India, the USA, Sweden, Estonia, Finland, Norway and the rest of the UK – represented by Isabella Newman.
The competition aims to boost the profile of women working in the drinks and bar industry but also raises money to fight breast cancer. It culminated in a gala dinner west of Stockholm in Åkers styckebruk where Rhuby liqueur is based.
Pink Your Drink was set up by Rhuby’s founder Ylva Binder. This year’s gala dinner raised over £9,000 for programmes fighting breast cancer.
The judges this year were Sandrae Lawrence of The Cocktail Lovers, Charlotte Halzius of Ling Long in Stockholm, last year’s Pink Your Drink winner Ira Jelizarova who is about to open her own bar in Tallinn in Estonia, bartender Franky Marshall of Le Boudoir in Brooklyn, and Swedish tourism specialist Fredrik Åström.
The other national winners who reached the global finals were Laura Suutari from Finland, Anni Voolaid from Estonia, Amanda Thomas from the USA, Ami Shroff from India and Jolanta Malczewska from Norway.
