Bartenders challenged to create cocktails with Greek mastiha

Bartenders are being challenged to create a cocktail using mastiha for a chance to win a trip to the Greek island of Chios where it comes from.

Mastiha World, a leading UK importer of the Greek liqueur, has launched The Growers Challenge to find cocktails that capture its history and character.

Bartenders enter by creating a recipe that uses at least 25ml of Enosis or Kentos mastiha liqueurs and three to five other ingredients. Entry is online at and the deadline is July 20.

Those who make it through to the final in London will be asked to create a second cocktail that highlights the taste and terroir of mastiha and shows deep understanding of the different aspects of the liqueur.

While their initial drink should be easy to reproduce, their second one has no limit to the number of ingredients although it must still use at least 25ml of Enosis and/or Kentos.

The winner of the Growers’ Challenge will win a trip to Chios to meet the mastiha growers, experience life on the island, see the trees that produce the mastiha resin, enjoy the local mastiha cuisine and visit the distillery.

The winners in second and third place will win a case of Enosis and Kentos mastiha liqueurs respectively. Their cocktails will also be promoted through social media, credited to them.

Mastiha World has an exclusive partnership with the Chios Mastiha Growers’ Association, or Union, to import their two brands, Kentos, at 20% ABV, and Enosis, at 30% ABV.
