Leading bartenders and rising talent will come together at a cocktail competition next month in the culmination of a mentorship programme run for Flor de Caña rum.
For Rum Frontiers, the brand brought together 13 established bartenders and invited them to nominate three up-and-coming bartenders to mentor through training and education about the single-estate rum.
On March 2, they will come together for a final where they will compete in cocktail-making for a chance to win a trip to Nicaragua – the home of Flor de Caña.
The 13 mentors, all based in London, are:
- Max Chater, consultant
- Liam Cotter, consultant
- Francois Bertrand of MARC Group
- Joseph Lewis-White of The Savoy
- Tiago Mira of The Ritz
- Constanca Raposo Cordeiro of Peg + Patriot
- Russell Burgess of Loves Company
- Georgi Radev of Mahiki
- Elliot Ball of The Cocktail Trading Co
- Danilo Tersigni of Mr Fogg’s
- Filippo Previero of Cahoots
- Tiziano Tazzo of Zuma
- Spencer Large of Jamie Oliver Group.
The competition will be held in the old ticketing hall of Shoreditch Station in front of their colleagues and industry guests. Flor de Caña rums will be served alongside cocktails from Matt Whiley of bar consultancy Talented Mr Fox, a selection of Nicaraguan street food and a soundtrack of Latin house music.
The Nicaraguan Embassy is an active partner in Flor de Caña’s Rum Frontiers programmes. Nicaragua’s ambassador to the UK, Guisell Morales-Echaverry, said: “Nicaragua is defined by three things – lakes, volcanoes, and Flor de Caña”. The rum is more than just a famous export – it is woven into the very fabric of her country, she said.
