Bartenders compete to ‘pink’ drinks with Rhuby liqueur

The Pink Your Drink competition, which attracted bartenders from across Sweden, was organised to explore and promote the mixability of the Swedish rhubarb liqueur that was launched in the UK last year by Ylva Binder.

Held at Björk Bar at the Courtyard by Marriott hotel in Stockholm, it tied in with Breast Cancer Awareness Month in October. The Rhuby team work with bars, restaurants and clubs to encourage them to offer “pinked drinks” and “pinked menu” with the liqueur where a part of the income goes to breast cancer research.

The competition was judged by a panel that included two finalists from the Pink Your Drink competition held in London last year: Jolene Cadwell, bar manager at Papaji’s in Bristol, and Elsa Holmberg, bar manager of Brass Monkey in Nottingham.

The panel also included Rhuby’s master blender Solveig Sommarström and Angela Forsgren D’Orazio, the master distiller of Swedish whisky Mackmyra.

It was won by Sofie Larsson (pictured above), owner of Magic bar in Stockholm, who impressed judges with various cocktails that she made. Her drink, Miss Regina, was dedicated to her close friend and Swedish actress Regina Lund who has recently been diagnosed with breast cancer.

The other finalists were Elina Lingman of The Ice Hotel in Jukkasjärvi, Ida Kruth of Clarion Hotel in Östersund, Moa Carlson of Barakademin & Radisson Blue Waterfront in Stockholm, Sara Garsten of Restaurang Lokal in Stockholm, Josefin Holmqvist of Urban Deli in Stockholm, Christel Möller of The Company in Borås, and Karolina Forsbäck, a freelance from Strängnäs.

The competition was followed by a party at Solidaritet in Stockholm where “pinked menus” throughout the weekend helped to raise money for breast cancer research. It tied in with the autumn launch of Rhuby Liqueur in Sweden.
