Bartenders take home back bar in William Grant & Sons competition

Winner Takes All Rynd Reading

A team from Be At One in Reading triumphed in the first of a new national cocktail competition run by William Grant & Sons UK to showcase its spirits and liqueurs.

Twelves teams made up of a total of 38 bartenders took part in the Winner Takes All challenges at Rynd Bar & Kitchen in Reading for the prize of a back bar of the company’s products which include Sailor Jerry rum, Monkey Shoulder whisky, Reyka vodka and Disaronno amaretto.

Judged by brand ambassadors from William Grant & Sons UK, the competition called for inventive and original cocktails across four challenges: the “Speed Sour” led by Disaronno ambassador Rod Eslamieh, the “Twisted Martini” hosted by Reyka ambassador Joe Petch, the “Saturday Night Simulator” concocted by Monkey Shoulder ambassador Grant Neave, and the “Sailor Jerry Tiki-Off”, presented by Sailor Jerry ambassador EmmaLi Stenhouse.

Winner Takes All is being run to encourage up-and-coming bartending talent from outside of London to showcase their skills. They were judged on the quality of their cocktail-making skills, ranging from accuracy to creativity and style.

The winning team from Be At One Reading was made up of Matt Watmore, Matt Hill and Colette Abel (pictured).

Joe Petch, who led the competition, said: “I started my career in Reading so for me this competition was really an opportunity to bring together like-minded bartenders from around the country – away from the usual capital city focus – and showcase some great up-and-coming talent.

“We saw some genuine originality from the participants using some of the William Grant & Sons UK brands: Monkey Shoulder, Reyka, Sailor Jerry, and Disaronno.

“The competition was a great success and was thoroughly enjoyed by competitors and spectators alike. This is an event we will definitely be doing again.”
