Dave Tsouvallaris (pictured) from Birmingham has been crowned the winner of the Be At One Bartender Challenge 2018.
Open to all bartenders, the annual challenge is a company-wide initiative that celebrates the talent and hard work of all Be At One staff.
With 2018 seeing the largest number of entrants since inception, each bar is required to host an in-bar heat where they are each tested on their ability to wow the guests with creativity, pouring skills and cocktail knowledge.
Following a stirring final held at London Monument in September, with over 200 people turning out to watch, Dave took home the coveted prize of £2,000 and a three-day all expenses paid trip.
Each round saw the competition requirements become progressively harder with a variety of tests across knowledge, recipe, pour, speed. In addition, there is a front bar where they are required to serve and are judged on showmanship, rapport, and charisma.
Over 150 bartenders entered and competed this year. With three semi-finals whittling down the list to ten finalists, Dave displayed his winning credentials to the founders of the business, a member of the Pernod Ricard team and owner of Bar Chick, Hannah Lodge.
Kimberley King, head of training at Be At One, said “This was our most successful bartender challenge to date, with over 150 competitors throughout the UK.
“Across our eight years of running this competition, we are proud to see the awareness and entrants grow year on year.
“We work hard to ensure that we offer the best bar training there is within the cocktail industry and a challenge such as this enables our staff to show of their skills to an esteemed judging panel. Well done to Dave and all the semi-finalists!”
