Beers from US brewers Saugatuck and TailGate come to UK

Saugatuck and TailGate US craft beers from Heathwick

Craft beers from two award-winning US brewers have been added to the range distributed in the UK by specialist beer importer Heathwick.

The beers from Saugatuck Brewing Company of Douglas, Michigan and the TailGate Brewery of Nashville, Tennessee, joins Heathwick’s established range from the Fordham and Dominion breweries of Delaware.

The full range will be promoted to the trade as the Heathwick Beer Experience, backed by brand support encouraging consumers to rethink their perceptions of beer and experiment with flavours, styles and even beer cocktails.

Marketing support includes branded glassware, tasting notes, food matches and pump clips for draught brands.

Spearheading the range expansion is the acclaimed Saugatuck Neapolitan Stout, which will be available from mid-October as a seasonal beer for autumn and winter.

The 6% ABV beer blends a dry stout character with the rich strawberry, vanilla and chocolate flavour notes of Neapolitan ice cream to create an interesting new take on a classic milk stout. It is available in 355ml bottles and keg.

Graham Richardson, general manager of Heathwick, said: “Neapolitan Stout is a fantastic way to launch our expanded range and the Heathwick Beer Experience.

“It’s a shining example of the way US craft brewers are using the flavours of malts and hops to expand consumers’ appreciation of beer.”

Other Saugatuck beers available year round from Heathwick in 355ml bottles are:

  • Oval Beach Blonde: An easy-drinking 5% ABV light ale with subtle malt flavours and aroma
  • Amber ESB: A 5.5% ABV Extra Special Bitter inspired by classic British ales, made with nine different malts matched with a hint of smooth hops.

Two beers will be available all year round in 355ml cans from TailGate Brewery, named for the US tailgating parties held in the parking lots of sports and music arenas:

  • Black Top Blonde: A 5% ABV American blonde ale that use Magnum and Cascade hops to create a soft, subtle spice, blended with golden malts
  • Session IPA: a 5% ABV made with Cascade and Magnum hops to create a very different beer, with a full IPA flavour while being less of a “hop bomb” than many stronger US IPAs.

Graham added: “These new beers complement our existing range from Fordham and Dominion perfectly, and give bar and restaurant operators the opportunity to serve a very diverse range of US craft beers.

“With formats including bottle, keg and can, we can help any style of operation meet consumer interest in the booming craft beer sector.”
