Ben Lomond Gin Secures Double Gold at San Francisco World Spirits Competition, Marking Debut International Award Win

Ben Lomond Gin has won a coveted Double Gold for its Original Scottish Gin at the San Francisco World Spirits Competition (SFWSC), one of the oldest and most prestigious spirits competitions in the world.

Launched in 2019, Ben Lomond Gin has established a reputation as one of Scotland’s most exciting gins, renowned for its bold and versatile flavour profiles. This accolade is the brand’s first triumph on a global stage.

Inspired by the striking natural surroundings of Loch Lomond and the Trossachs, Ben Lomond Gin is distilled using 11 different botanicals, balancing Scottish flavours with exotic botanicals from around the world, to create a truly bold and versatile spirit.

Distilled as a classic London Dry, the Original Scottish Gin’s unique blend of botanicals includes locally foraged rowan berries, Scottish blackcurrants as well as whole oranges and Szechuan pepper. The combination of both fresh and dried botanicals creates a balanced, versatile and flavour packed gin bursting with floral, citrus, and spice notes.

Founded in 2000, the SFWSC is the largest spirits competition in the world, judged by renowned experts with decades of industry experience.

This year, the SFWSC judged 5,500 entrants across more than 30 separate categories. Throughout four days of highly controlled blind tastings, the competition’s judging panels taste every product to determine if it is medal-worthy. Judges do not receive any information on producer or price point, ensuring each spirit is judged fairly.

Gold medals are awarded to “exceptional spirits that are near the pinnacle of achievement”, with Double Gold presented to the entries that receive a Gold medal rating by all members of the judging panel. The results revealed that less than 1% of all awarded spirits were Double Gold London Dry gins.

John Grieveson, Chief Marketing Officer of Ben Lomond Gin owner Loch Lomond Group, said: “We are immensely proud to receive recognition for our dedication to crafting versatile, premium gin that reflects the beauty and heritage of our Scottish home.

“It’s a significant milestone for everyone at Ben Lomond Gin as our first international win and has inspired us to continue nurturing Ben Lomond’s adventurous spirit which invites drinkers to venture through a world of flavours and experiment however, and wherever, they choose.”

The gin brand’s placement in the SFWSC follows an exciting period of growth in 2023 as it was announced as the first Official Gin of The Open. Ben Lomond Gin also partnered with the John Muir Trust to launch The Explorer Series, in support of the conservation, protection and restoration of UK’s wild places.

In addition, the brand announced a high-profile partnership with FINDRA, a pioneering female outdoor clothing brand. United through a shared passion for connecting people with nature and embracing everyday adventure, the join-up included a launch of an exclusive neckwarmer that celebrates Scotland’s adventurous spirit.

Ben Lomond Gin is produced in Scotland by the award-winning Loch Lomond Group which also owns and operates key whisky brands including Loch Lomond Whiskies and Glen Scotia Single Malt Scotch Whisky.

Following the Loch Lomond Distillery’s win for “most awarded distillery” at the 2023 SFWSC, they are on track for a similar success this year. Loch Lomond Whiskies has won 15 awards with seven Double Golds, four Golds and four Silver awards while Glen Scotia has received 12 accolades with four Double Gold and eight Golds.
