BISTRO 1922: THE NEXT CHAPTER IN THE 1922 STORY

A new Chelsea bistro from The Sloane Club, opening this October

This October, The Sloane Club’s 1922 story moves into its next chapter with the launch of Bistro 1922, bringing the spirit of one of Chelsea’s most established institutions to a new generation of diners.

Located next to The Sloane Club, Bistro 1922 is a relaxed, characterful London bistro, open to all and designed to feel firmly at home in the neighbourhood. Building on the momentum of Café 1922, which opened to the public in April 2026, Bistro 1922 takes the 1922 offering further, bringing more energy to Lower Sloane Street.

The concept is rooted in the same qualities that have defined The Sloane Club for more than a century: good food, good company, conversation and a genuine sense of belonging. It is a modern Chelsea bistro in its own right – informal, inviting and made for the everyday rituals of the neighbourhood, from long lunches and leisurely suppers.

At its heart, Bistro 1922 celebrates the enduring appeal of the London bistro, generous food, a lively room and thoughtful service. The menu will have a distinctly British focus, with George Scott-Toft, Executive Head Chef at Bistro 1922, working alongside Gordy McIntyre, Director of Food & Beverage, to build relationships with local producers, suppliers and F&B partners including Rockfish, Cultjar, HG Walter and Curing Rebels. Provenance and quality will sit at the heart of the offering, with dishes showcasing the best of British produce.

The room itself will double as a living gallery, with artwork curated in partnership with Hommage, the Chelsea based specialists in original posters and lithographs. Works will be rotated regularly throughout the year, spanning museum and exhibition posters by artists including Pablo Picasso, Raoul Dufy and Damien Hirst, bringing a changing layer of character and cultural depth to the space.

The story behind 1922 begins with The Sloane Club itself. Founded in 1922 by Princess Helena as the Ex-Service Women’s Club, it was established as a place for women returning from the First World War to gather, support one another and exchange ideas. More than 100 years later, that founding instinct – to create a place where people come together – remains at the heart of the brand.

Café 1922 marked the first time that spirit stepped beyond the Club’s doors and into the wider Chelsea community. Conceived as a neighbourhood café and deli centred around conversation, craftsmanship and community, it established a new public-facing expression of The Sloane Club.

Bistro 1922 is the next expression of that idea. Where Café 1922 introduced the 1922 name to the neighbourhood, Bistro 1922 opens the door further – bringing the warmth, character and hospitality of The Sloane Club into a more expansive all-day dining experience.

Together, the two destinations form part of a wider evolution across The Sloane Club taking a heritage built over 104 years and finding new ways for it to belong to Chelsea today.

Neena Jivraj-Stevenson, Managing Director of The Sloane Club said: “Bistro 1922 is an exciting next step for us. Café 1922 showed us there was a real appetite to bring the spirit of The Sloane Club beyond our members and into the neighbourhood, and Bistro 1922 gives us the opportunity to take that idea much further.

We wanted Bistro 1922 to have its own personality – more energy and the unmistakable character of a great London bistro – while staying true to the things that have always mattered to us: generous hospitality, good food, conversation and a sense of belonging. It’s a new chapter for 1922, but one that feels completely at home in Chelsea.”

Bistro 1922 will soft launch from 21st September for hotel guests and local businesses, and will officially open on the 5th October to the public.
