Bock-style lager from Spain’s Alhambra released in UK

Alhambra Roja

A strong Bock-style lager has been added to the Spanish range of Alhambra beers available from importer Morgenrot.

Alhambra Reserva Roja, at 7.2% ABV, is a Spanish reinterpretation of a traditional German Bock style, reddish in colour and packaged in sleek embossed 33cl bottles.

It is described as full of delicate notes with a silky, smooth mouth-feel providing extra intensity and moreish malt characteristics. It has a good balance of roasted malt and ripe fruit flavours with the hops adding the slightly bitter counterpoint.

Founded in 1925, the Alhambra brewery produces its beers using artisan methods and high-quality Andalusian ingredients, including spring water from the Sierra Nevada mountains.

Alhambra Reserva Roja joins Morgenrot’s portfolio alongside Alhambra Reserva lager in 33cl bottles and Alhambra Especial in kegs and 33cl bottles.

Morgenrot’s commercial director John Critchley said: “The Alhambra name is already known and loved in restaurants, bars and pubs around the UK so we’re thrilled to be the exclusive importer of this new and surprising addition to our portfolio.

“Alhambra Reserva has to be Spain’s most loved super-premium beer so we expect big things from its brother, the Roja, which provides equal amounts of intrigue, pleasure and satisfaction.”
