A super-premium bourbon from New York City’s oldest operating whiskey distillery has been released in the UK through Amathus Drinks.
Kings County Bottled-in-Bond Straight Bourbon Whiskey uses a designation that refers to American whiskeys that are distilled, aged and bottled entirely at one distillery, from barrels filled in one season, by one distiller.
It also means the whiskey must be four years old and bottled at precisely 100% proof, or 50% ABV. In the past, this was a way to protect the consumer from companies that were merely bottling up whiskey from other distilleries and blending or adulterating it to create their own brand.
Kings County Bottled-in-Bond has been released to commemorate the 120th anniversary of the Bottled-In-Bond Act of 1897.
The bourbon is described as smooth, bold, spicy and complex with notes of cinnamon, nutmeg, black pepper and vanilla. Like other whiskeys from Kings County, it comes in 20cl bottles, with a recommended price in retail of £34.75.
Voted by the American Distilling Institute as 2016 distillery of the year, Kings County Distillery was New York City’s first distillery founded after Prohibition, established in 2010 by Colin Spoelman and David Haskell.
