Bottlegreen adds retro-style raspberry lemonade for summer

bottlegreen 275ml Raspberry Lemonade

Bottlegreen Drinks is tapping into the “retro” trend with a new raspberry lemonade sparkling pressé, exclusive to foodservice and the on-trade.

It blends the juice of raspberries with the tart juice from lemons, using the same traditional wine-making techniques and cold filtration process that the company has developed for its other pressés and cordials.

Available in 275ml bottles, it is being promoted as a “quintessential taste of the English summer in a bottle”. It is recommended for serving over ice garnished with a wedge of lemon as well as for summer cocktails (see below).

Like all Bottlegreen sparkling pressés, the latest addition contains no artificial colours, flavours, sweeteners or preservatives.

Brand owner SHS Drinks has created the new flavour in response to the growing consumer interest in traditional soft drinks. It follows last summer’s launch of two sparkling pressés including Bottlegreen Cotswold Lemonade & Mint – another retro-style drink.

It also launched Mango & Coconut – a tropical combination of sweet mango and mild coconut water, blended with lightly sparkling water to meet demand for more interesting and exotic flavours.

Amanda Grabham, marketing director for soft drinks at SHS Drinks, said: “With increasing numbers of soft drinks consumers trading up to premium brands with more sophisticated flavours, adult soft drinks (ASDs) represent one of the biggest growth opportunities in the soft drinks category.”

Citing CGA Brand Index figures, she added: “The latest data shows that last year on-trade volume sales of ASDs grew by 18% and value sales were up by 26%, bringing the value of the ASD category to £448 million.

“There is an emerging retro trend within the ASD category which is seeing a revival in interest in drinks such as traditional lemonade.

“With both the Bottlegreen Cotswold Lemonade & Mint and the new Raspberry Lemonade, we wanted to bring a contemporary twist to the classic lemonade by using our specialist skills and craftsmanship to blend in complementary juices and herbs which bring a new flavour dimension to a traditional favourite.”
