Bristol bartender to compete in Chivas Masters global final

Alex Godfrey from The Milk Thistle in Bristol is to compete at the global final of this year’s Chivas Masters competition after being declared UK champion.

He was among 10 bartenders who were challenged to demonstrate the whisky brand’s principles of community, collaboration and generosity at the national final in Manchester last week.

Asked to create a unique serve inspired by their own local community, Alex came up with Journey of Brothers (pictured), a highball that combined Chivas Regal whisky with fino sherry, Somerset cider cordial, celery bitters and tonic. See below for the full recipe.

The judges were previous Chivas Masters winners Chelsie Bailey and Rhys Wilson, Chivas UK brand ambassador Phil Huckle, and Gary Sharpen from The Cocktail Lovers.

Alex (pictured below) will now be heading to the five-day Chivas Masters global final in London on June 24, where he will battle it out with 20 other finalists from around the globe to be crowned Chivas Masters Global Champion 2018.

Taking part in a series of masterclasses and intense individual and team challenges, he must show the panel of judges how he has developed and honed his cocktail-making skills and knowledge during the competition.

One key element of the Chivas Masters competition is that Alex will also need to show how he has collaborated with fellow competitors to achieve shared success.

The global champion will win the chance to travel the world with Chivas to inspire the bartenders of the future.

40ml Chivas Regal
15ml Fino sherry
20 Somerset cider cordial
1 dash Celery bitters
Tonic water
Build the ingredients over ice in a highball glass and top up with tonic.
